Abode's Community Dinner Kits

We are so grateful for our annual donors and volunteers who make this program possible. Each year, we have a goal of fundraising $10,000 which helps us provide local families with a special dinner. In 2024, we served over 200 families, this year our goal remains the same at 200 dinners. We work directly with Tacoma School’s McKinney Vento program to identify families for Dinner Kit deliveries!

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

1. PICK UP OR PREP BOXES

Each Dinner Kit is delivered inside of a sturdy banana box. We pack the dinners in these boxes so it’s important that we have both the top and bottom (and be sure to keep the cardboard liners that are often inside). Grocery Outlet has been a consistent partner for us in this project, but if you swing through the produce department at most any grocery store they will usually have boxes available.

We’d like you to wrap / decorate the TOP ONLY of these boxes (watch this video to see how the boxes come together!) and then drop them off at one of these locations:

Ascent Fitness
3914 Center St
Tacoma, WA 98409

11/15 from 1-3 PM or 11/16 from 4:30-6:30 PM

Windermere Abode
2200 North 30th Street
Tacoma, WA 98403

Monday-Friday from 9-5 pm

Once you have secured a box, please help us keep track of our total by adding your name here.

2. OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP
Whether you have a small car or SUV, we’re looking for volunteers who can do some shopping or help with deliveries. Click here for all the details and to add your name to our list!

3. MAKE A MONETARY DONATION
We wouldn’t be able to meet our goal this year without our donors - no amount is too small! Our goal is $10,000 and donations can be made via Venmo: @communitydinnerkits253 🥧

HISTORY OF THE DINNER KITS

If you follow Melo on Instagram (@melohogan.realtor) you’ll discover that this busy mom and businesswoman always makes time to help her neighbors. The dinner kits were originally born out of a desire to get her family further involved in community service.

“I wanted my family and I to go to the Rescue Mission to volunteer serving meals, but they already had enough volunteers.” Melo & Steve decided they were going to find another way to help, and the first dinner kit was created. The second year they helped two families, the third year they helped five families and the Hogan’s project began to grow. Once the Abode crew heard about the dinner kits they knew they wanted to help & amplify the efforts the Hogan’s had started. Now we serve more than 200 families each year and are honored to do so!
