Dune Peninsula is the 11-acre park that opened in 2019 on a reclaimed ASARCO smelter site, now 180 degrees of Puget Sound. The paved Frank Herbert Trail, named for the Tacoma-born author of "Dune," loops the point and links to the Ruston Way Waterwalk and, over the Wilson Way Bridge, into Point Defiance Park.
Breakwater Marina sits on the water just east of Point Defiance, next to the Tacoma Yacht Club and near the Vashon ferry. It offers permanent and guest moorage plus a full-service repair yard, with shore power, showers, and laundry for boaters.
