A mile away, you’ll find Wapato Park - an urban park featuring a woodland area, a lake, walking trail, plus a historic pergola full of stunning and colorful scenery. Wapato has a number of trails that you can walk to explore the park, including one circling the lake that is approx .9 miles in length and you can’t beat the beautiful setting of the lake and forest. It’s best and most popular feature though is the off leash dog park! The off leash dog area has a smaller area for pups under 25 pounds, a space for larger pups and an upper dog area for all dogs. The park also provides waste bag stations and garbage bins to help keep the park clean. Water is also available for the pups, there’s a water faucet and bowl.
You can look forward to being just a few minutes from Stewart Heights Pool - 160 foot Water Slide, Lazy River, Zero-depth entry, Bubble Pool, Water Play Structure, Water Basketball, Tumble Buckets. It’s a great, local community place to just lounge about, sip some cooling, homemade lemonade, and dip your toes in their refreshing pool. And have you ever witnessed a fluffy, Corgi swimming? It’s quite comical! Not many know this, but at the end of every summer, before they clean out the pools, they have a Pooch Pool Party! It’s a fun place to take your furry best friend to cool off and also enjoy watching the other pups get their swim on.
Commuting north? Consider parking and riding or walking to the Sounder Train, less than 2 miles away to the commuter rail station. It’s convenient, cheap (about $5 to ride) and less of a hassle than sitting in I-5 traffic for events or commuting! It will put you into downtown Tacoma, Seattle and a few places in between. And if you need to drive, freeway access to I-5 is just a minute away.
Also close by is Marlene’s Market, a wonderful natural food store with organic salad bar, daily scratch made soups and delicious bakery items you can’t pass up! Costco is just minutes away too for all your bulk shopping needs.
