Get out and about or bike to Wapato Hills Park where you can splash, play or cool off at the free sprayground! Or take a leisurely one-quarter mile walk around this park.
2 miles away, you’ll find Wapato Park - an urban park featuring a woodland area, a lake, walking trail, plus a historic pergola full of stunning and colorful scenery. Wapato has a number of trails that you can walk to explore the park, including one circling the lake that is approx .9 miles in length and you can’t beat the beautiful setting of the lake and forest. It’s best and most popular feature though is the off leash dog park! The off leash dog area has a smaller area for pups under 25 pounds, a space for larger pups and an upper dog area for all dogs. The park also provides waste bag stations and garbage bins to help keep the park clean. Water is also available for the pups, there’s a water faucet and bowl.
Or enjoy Fern Hill Park, less than a mile away and offering special play equipment that is designed to provide safe play for all children, including those with limited motor skills. 2.01 acres with a picnic shelter and a soft trail that loops around the exterior of the park.
If you’re looking for a special spot to dine out, look no further than Tibbits at Fern Hill! This quaint, little spot is highly rated (more than 400 5 star reviews on Yelp and counting!) and there’s a reason why. There are only 9 tables in this establishment so you’ll need a reservation to give it a try, but it’s worth the wait when you finally get to savor the apple cinnamon french toast, the lobster bomb, sandwiches and salads, pancakes that look like they’re being served to royalty and other tasty things smothered in gravy. The owner, Shawn Tibbits is more than just cooking amazing food though, he also gives back to the community. Not only does he help feed people in need, but last year he threw a party to wrap 400 gifts for low-income children and dozens in the community showed up to help.
For local amenities, The Tacoma Place shopping center is 8 minutes away, where you’ll find Popeyes, Applebee’s, Olive Garden, the best pho from Pho Ever Tacoma, Thai Hut, Famous Dave’s, Little Tokyo Teriyaki, Dairy Queen and Red Lobster. You can also find Winco in this shopping center too.
For more essentials like groceries, medication, household items and gasoline, the Fred Meyer Shopping Center is just a couple blocks away.
