THE COMMUNITY
This home is in such a sweet little spot and close parks & dining! You’ll be happy to know that the Eastside of Tacoma just got a Community Center - brand new (opened 10/20), spacious pool that’s great for laps, there’s a fun slide, diving board, spray features, climbing wall, water vortex, hot tub, aqua zip and more. You can book pool parties, partake in some water exercise and swimming lessons AND it’s affordable! Playing in the water isn’t the only thing you can do here; they also have a Metronome Coffee shop, basketball court, recording studio, training kitchen, social hall, fitness area and a dance room. While this new center is focusing on safe space for youth to go, it will serve the entire community. More info on how the Eastside Community Center came to be.
The Lincoln District is just four blocks away and an incredible blend of historic buildings and cultural diversity. This newly remodeled neighborhood already had a high Walkscore and is now even more pedestrian friendly. Find our more about the Lincoln District Streetscape Project here! Plenty of local, family owned establishments and hard-to-find international items at several specialty markets. The Lincoln District also celebrates TET New Year Festival – check their Facebook page for more info on the date of this event, which generally occurs in February.
On the corner of S Yakima Ave and S 38th St is Vien Dong – an authentic Vietnamese, family owned restaurant that hits the spot with their delicious pho, curry and noodle dishes! If you stop by, tell Kevin and Linh we said hello.
If you’re looking for hard-to-find international items that local grocery chains don’t carry, you’re in luck – there are several stores with fresh produce and food. If you’ve ever wanted to try Jackfruit, the East Asia Supermarket carries them and is just 2 blocks away! Four blocks away is the Hong Kong Supermarket where you can buy whole roasted duck and pork, delicious Mooncakes – traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival, kitchen gadgets you didn’t think you needed and an assortment of sauces to make any Asian dish more authentic. Safeway and Marlene’s Market and Deli are within minutes of this home for groceries or organic foods.

The Lincoln District was named after the historic Lincoln High School – named after Abraham Lincoln. You can’t miss the giant statue of the sixteenth President of the United States in front of the school entrance and the beautiful brick structure. Right behind the high school is Metro Parks Lincoln Park/Eldridge Playfield – a historic park established in 1889. Other Tacoma Public Schools serving this home are Lyon Elementary (which is currently being rebuilt and will open in Fall 2018) and Stewart Middle School, which just underwent an extensive restoration.
