THE HOUSE

This distinctive Dutch colonial is one of four homes built atop “I” Street by Charles Drury at the turn of the last century. Lovingly restored, it’s now part of Tacoma’s North Slope Historic District, a neighborhood that’s rich in history and architecture. The unique gambrel roofline affords maximum space and great views of the beautiful surrounding neighborhoods & Commencement Bay. Striking mix of original details and careful restoration make this home one of a kind.

There are three bedrooms on the second level, including a large master suite. The laundry is conveniently located with the hall bathroom. Upstairs you’ll find the entire 3rd floor is a master retreat with new hardwood floors, an updated bath and room to sit, read, meditate or just watch the world go by! All four baths have new tile + quartz counters. Finished basement with checkerboard tile floors and spacious media room. In fact, there is NO carpet anywhere in this house! The two-car garage is a rare find in the dense North Slope neighborhood. There’s room for a shop and a loft for extra storage or maybe a future ADU? Lots of possibilities here.

  • 4 bedrooms
  • 3.5 bathrooms

THE NEIGHBORHOOD

“I will miss the pride I felt these last nine years to be this home’s caretaker.”

“It is rare, I think, to find a house with this much space that also has a feel-good vibe inside. This house is grand with its tall ceilings, large windows and over-sized, solid doors and trimming, but to be inside the house makes me feel hugged. Also, I absolutely love the appearance of the house from the sidewalk and stairs. I bought this house nine years ago and I still pause for just a second every time I climb the stairs to the front porch to admire its appearance. The deep, welcoming porch; the scalloped-shingle siding; the shutter-style windows and the fish weathervane make the house unique and adorable. I frequently see passing couples pointing up at it and smiling as if they see something they like.”

“While living in this house I have enjoyed all sorts of activities within walking distance. When I feel like exercising I run laps around Wright Park or head down the hill to Ruston Way or sometimes I just zigzag through the neighborhood and look at the beautiful houses. When my niece and nephew were small I liked to take them to the little park just two blocks west, on the corner of North 8th and K Street. The conservatory in Wright Park is one of my favorite places to duck into when I’m passing through to go downtown. The most beautiful white Koi fish lives in the pond inside the conservatory and she’s not to be missed. I’ve also really enjoyed meeting up with friends for drinks at the Parkway Tavern or Hanks; each just four blocks away. I occasionally declare a “Tacoma Day” during which I walk down to Broadway and hit all the neat antique shops and enjoy food and drink everywhere possible on my way back home. From my house I’ve walked to see plays and concerts at the Pantages Theater, the Temple Theater, Tacoma Little Theater and McMenamins. My hair salon and my favorite nail salon are also just blocks away from the house. I like to grab my shopping bags and walk to Stadium Thriftway to get my groceries. Everything is so close to this house. I’ve even walked myself to Tacoma General Hospital to have surgery!”

“This house is in a great place for anyone who loves to eat in restaurants. If I feel like having a burger and fries I walk to Shake Shake Shake. If I feel like eating a big bowl of ramen noodles or drinking hot sake I walk to Indo Asian Street Bistro or Moshi Moshi. If I want a delicious breakfast complete with tasty cocktails I walk to Art House Cafe. Some decent sandwiches and pizza are also nearby. On a day that I have absolutely nothing going on later, I really like to walk down to Ruston Way and take advantage of the generous pour at the Harbor Lights happy hour, and then crawl back up the hill to my beautiful house.”
