Welcome to the North Slope Historic District! Although there isn’t a technically defined boundary line for this sought after area of Tacoma, long time residents know that it this area is borders North I Street, Division Avenue and North Steele Street. This 27-acre arboretum is home to a rich collection of more than 600 trees - stunning in both the spring & summer when they’re ample and bright green, and impressive in the fall as they change from green to all the fall colors. They offer a Bobcat Learning Center for academic and enrichment support to all students. Grant Elementary School believes in expressive arts, meaning that arts are integrated into core subjects areas to provide students with opportunities for self expression. Stadium High School is a historical Tacoma landmark and was the filming location for many of the scenes in the 1999 movie 10 Things I Hate About You. Students here test high in math and higher in reading.
Just five blocks away and often the topic of discussion when talking to locals about “the best place to grab a burger in Tacoma”. You’ll be ecstatic to hit up Frisko Freeze when a delicious burger and shake craving strikes. This quick-serve spot, with retro style & a choice of drive-thru or walk-up ordering is just one of the many best burger joints around.
Now there’s no shortage of coffee in this neighborhood (thank goodness!), but if you’re looking for a unique and highly rated place to go that isn’t your standard chain shop, then you must give Cosmonaut Coffee Co a try. You can spot this little brick hole in the wall shop from the street with the Cosmonaut artwork painted in blues and reds on the side. In November 2019 they were recognized at an Ocean Friendly Restaurant; meaning they help cut down on everyday waste like no plastic straws, no use of styrofoam, proper recycling methods are practiced and much more criteria that are met.
This location has just about everything you could ask for within a 4 minute radius. Rhein Haus is the best; their giant pretzels are ridiculously yummy. Additionally there is a local tavern, Hank’s, that makes a mean pizza pie. Some other eateries and amenities that you should know about are - Parkway Tavern, Indo Asian Street Eatery, Shake, Shake, Shake, Art House Cafe, La Bella Nail Spa, The Copper Door, Stadium Thriftway, Morrell’s Dry Cleaners, King’s Books and so much more!
