WHAT’S NEARBY

With the Stay At Home order in place, we wanted to inform you about not only what’s nearby, where you can go as we move into Phase 2 in Pierce County and, also what you can look forward to in this neighborhood as things start to reopen again.

The Lincoln District is just minutes away! The Lincoln International District is an incredible blend of historic buildings and cultural diversity and has a high Walkscore. Plenty of places to order takeout around here by local, family owned establishments and hard-to-find international items at several specialty markets. The Lincoln District also celebrates the TET New Year Festival – check their Facebook page for more info on the date of this event, which generally occurs in February. Get tacos, burritos, homemade tortillas & fresh made salsa at El Antojo of Tacoma. If you’re looking for 2.5 pounds of crab, crawfish, sausage, clams, shrimp, corn and potatoes to devour with a little kick to it, then head to Dragon’s Crawfish. Get the best bubble tea around at BAMBU Coffee and Tea. They also have some unique desserts like passionfruit and lychee macarons, pandan waffles with Thai tea ice cream or guava cake. All of these establishments are currently taking out at this time.

The Eastside Farmers Market is back open again! Now through August on Tuesdays from 3 - 7 PM, you can get fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers, honey, berries, handmade goods and more! All shoppers are required to wear a mask at this time, along with only one person entering per household.

If you’re looking for hard-to-find international items that local grocery chains don’t carry, you’re in luck – there are several stores with fresh produce and food. If you’ve ever wanted to try Jackfruit, the East Asia Supermarket carries them and is just 2 blocks away! Four blocks away is the Hong Kong Supermarket where you can buy whole roasted duck and pork, delicious Mooncakes – traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival, kitchen gadgets you didn’t think you needed and an assortment of sauces to make any Asian dish more authentic.

The Lincoln District was named after the historic Lincoln High School – named after Abraham Lincoln. You can’t miss the giant statue of the sixteenth President of the United States in front of the school entrance and the beautiful brick structure. Right behind the high school is Metro Parks Lincoln Park/Eldridge Playfield – a historic park established in 1889.
